The Itinerary for Rovos Rail Johannesburg to Victoria Falls Four-Day Journey

Day One

Your epic adventure begins with a departure from the Rovos Rail Station located in Pretoria. Spruce yourself up as you get ready to dine with other passengers in the seating of your choice. 

The first day is unique and requires you to wear formal clothing as you dine with fellow passengers in either the observation car at the end of the train or the lounge room. Dinner will be served at 8 pm, giving you ample time to rest up and look your best as you take in your surroundings on your way to Naboomspruit.

It is essential to ensure that your passport is ready and on hand so that the Train Manager or Administration Deputy can check you in properly at the border.

Day Two

At 7 am, you will get served breakfast in your dining car as the train begins to journey through the region of Polokwane. 

By 9 am, you will make a short stop at the Ranch Conservatory, giving you time to explore your wild side as you view many different types of game and various types of prolific birdlife.

At 1 pm, you’ll be aboard the train and crossing over into Louis Trichard and are then free to enjoy your afternoon with some tea or coffee. At the same time, border formalities are handled between South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Lastly, dinner will be served at 7:30 pm in the dining cars as the train crosses the Limpopo River en route to Beitbridge.

Day Three

On the third day, you can relax as the train travels through Baobab country. Breakfast will be served in the dining cars from 7 – 10 am, with lunch shortly after at 1 pm.

The train will make a short stop in Gwanada, allowing passengers to explore the village for a short while and enjoy afternoon tea at 4:30 pm. 

The train will depart for the second city of Zimbabwe, Bulawayo, by 6 pm, giving you ample time to explore your surroundings and freshen up for dinner.

Day Four

Day four will begin with a strong breakfast served in the dining cars and available until 10 am. 

You will travel 70.8 miles along one of the longest rails in the world with an amazing view of Hwange Park! Lunch will be served at 1 pm in the dining cars, giving you time to relax and spend time with fellow passengers or enjoy quiet time on your own.

At 3 pm, you can enjoy a private game drive through the Hwange National Park. 

Lastly, you will be served dinner on the fourth night in the dining cars. As it is your final night with us, you must wear formal wear as we prepare to deliver you to Victoria Falls.

Day Five

The luggage collection will begin at 9:45 am, giving you time to wake up and freshen yourself up after having breakfast. Breakfast will be available in the dining cars from 7 – 9:30 am.

Once your luggage has been collected, we will begin our departure activities at 10 am, and you will enjoy the beautiful views that Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, has to offer.

The Itinerary for Rovos Rail Train From Victoria Falls to Johannesburg

Day One

We will depart from Victoria Falls Station, Zimbabwe, by 5 pm. Once passengers have boarded, they can engage with other passengers in the lounge area or relax in their cars for some downtime as the journey begins.

After ensuring that you have handed your passport to the Administration Manager or Train Manager, passengers will be encouraged to start getting ready for dinner, being served at 7:30 pm. The dress code is formal and will be served in the dining car for all passengers.

Day Two

Day two will begin as early as 5 am, with breakfast in the dining cars to help get you wide awake in time for the game reserve.

At 6 am, passengers will be given a tour around the private game drive of Hwange National Park before jetting off along the railway.

You will pass through the city of Bulawayo along the long stretch of railway, and tea will be served by 4:30 pm. 

Dinner will be served by 7:30 pm, and you will be required to have formal wear as you watch the train head en route to Mbalabala.

Day Three

Passengers can collect their breakfast between 7 – 10 am while the train makes a short stop in Gwanda. Passengers can stretch their legs and stroll through Gwanda, with the departure time being 10 am.

By 10:30 am, the train will pass through the Baobab country and head to Beitbridge to begin the border crossing between Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Lunch will be served at 1 pm, and tea will be served shortly afterward at 4 pm. During this time, the train will cross the Beautiful Limpopo River and begin the border formalities with South Africa.

Dinner will be served at 7:30 pm with the usual formal wear as the train begins its descent to Louis Trichardt.

Day Four

Breakfast will be served promptly at 7 am to give you ample time to freshen up and prepare for the day.

9 am, the train will make a stop at the Ranch Conservatory, giving you time to explore the wildlife and plant life on the Ranch. You will get a chance to see the game and birdlife closely as you take in the beauty around you. Lunch will be included on this excursion.

There is a 2 pm return time to the train, followed by a 4 pm tea break served in the lounge and observation cars, as the train travels through Warmbaths and Nylstroom and heads towards the Highveld.

As usual, dinner will be served at 7:30 pm in the dining car, and the attire will be formal. On the last night, passengers can engage with one another as the train heads en route to Pyramid.

Day Five

Your final breakfast with us will be at 7 – 9:30 am, giving you time to eat before you depart. 

Luggage collection will begin at 9:45 am, and you must ensure your passport is returned by this time.

By 10 am, you will have reached the final destination at Rovos Rail, Pretoria, and will leave the train.
