The Rovos Rail Namibia Safari takes you on a journey by train. This means you will spend an amazing nine days surrounded by fellow adventurers as you take the scenic route through some culturally and historically rich African areas.

We want to give you the experience of a lifetime, and what better way to do that than to show you the beauty of Africa? So from the mountains to the sea, the Rovos Rail Namibia Safari will take you through the trails of South Africa before you cross the boundary into Namibia. Diversity, in all shapes and sizes, has never been more beautiful.

Namibian Safari by Train

The journey will begin after passengers board the train, and the adventure will begin. The Rail Namibia Safari will take you on a worthwhile adventure from the Highveld to the ocean. You will experience and see sights like the natural bush, wildlife, and South Africa’s botanical beauty.

You will receive 24-hour room service, bar service, private and guided tours, and limited laundry service. No matter which package you choose, these services will be included!

Departure From Pretoria To Walvis Bay

Whether you choose to depart from Pretoria or Walvis Bay, you can look forward to the following itinerary:

It’s important to note that breakfast will be served from 7-10 am, lunch will be served at 1 pm, tea will be served at 4:30 pm, and dinner will be served at 7:30 pm every day unless stated otherwise.

Day One

The train will leave from the Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria and head across the goldfields of Witwatersrand from 3 pm.

After handing their passport to the relevant parties, passengers will be free to take the time to relax and mingle with one another as their journey begins.

Day Two

Breakfast will be served in the dining hall at 7 am, after which passengers should prepare for their first excursion.

At 9:45 am, passengers will leave the train to take a tour of the ‘Big Hole,’ as well as the Diamond Museum in Kimberly.

The train will return at 12:30 pm, as the train should be headed toward Upington and the Karoo.

Day Three

After breakfast, served from 7-10 am, passengers can go on a two-hour walking tour through Upington.

The train will arrive in Holoog at 11 pm, after which border formalities will take place at Nakop.

Day Four

After breakfast, passengers will go on an excursion from the train to take a one-hour trip to the Fish River Canyon.

At 11 am, passengers will head to Keetmanshoop and travel along the Kalahari Passengers will be taken on another excursion to visit Garas Park and the Quiver Tree Forest at 3 pm.

Day Five

Breakfast will be served early to accommodate the 9 am arrival in Windhoek. Once the train has docked in Windhoek, passengers will go on a city tour.

At 11 am, passengers will leave Windhoek and head for a 1-hour flight to the Sossusvlei lodge to engage in a delightful lunch, bush dinner, and a desert drive on their overnight stay.

Day Six

Breakfast will begin after a Sossusvlei game drive happening at 6 am, giving passengers a bit of excitement to start their day.

At noon, passengers will leave the Sossusvlei to head for a one-hour flight to Windhoek.

At 2 pm, passengers will return on the railway as the train travels north to the Etosha National Park.

Day Seven

After breakfast, passengers will depart from the train at 9:30 am to indulge in an overnight stay at the amazing Etosha National Park.

Passengers can look forward to lunch, game drives, and dinner included in their overnight stay.

Day Eight

Breakfast will be available from 7-10 am, although passengers may be late due to an early morning game drive in the Etosha National Park.

Lunch, tea, and dinner will be served as usual as the train continues en route to the Atlantic.

Day Nine

Breakfast will be served at 7 am as the train comes to its final stop in Namibia.

At 12:30 pm, the train will dock, and passengers will arrive at their final destination. After receiving their luggage and passports, passengers will be free to leave.

Departure From Walvis Bay To Pretoria

It’s important to note that breakfast will be served from 7-10 am, lunch will be served at 1 pm, tea will be served at 4:30 pm, and dinner will be served at 7:30 pm every day unless stated otherwise.

Day One

The train will depart from the Walvis Bay station at noon, giving passengers a beautiful view of the Atlantic as it travels across the Namibian desert to head to the next destination. 

After handing your luggage in, it is essential to ensure that the Assistant Deputy or Train Manager has your passport to make traveling across borders easier. Passengers will be free to roam and get used to the train layout as the train passes along the railway.

Day Two

After a hearty breakfast, the train will make a stop in Etosha. Once the train has stopped, passengers will be transferred to the Etosha Lodge to begin check-in at 9:30 am for an overnight stay.

Lunch will be served in the Etosha National Park, after which a game drive and dinner will be served before passengers disperse to relax in their rooms.

Day Three

On day three, breakfast will be available earlier than usual for those who request it. The Morning will begin with a morning game drive through Etosha National Park at 6 am.

There will be a return time at 1 pm, allowing passengers to retrieve their belongings as the train embarks on its next great adventure in Windhoek.

Day Four

After a quick breakfast, the train will arrive at 9 am, and the passengers will depart for a guided tour.

At 11 am, passengers will leave the train to board a flight to the Sossusvlei, after which lunch, dinner, and dessert will be served to the passengers.

Day Five

Breakfast will be served in the vlei, giving passengers a bit of excitement as they travel to eat their breakfast.

At noon, passengers will be boarding a plane for a one-hour flight to Windhoek. After which, passengers will then be taken through the Kalahari by train.

Passengers are expected to traverse by train at 2 pm as they continue en route to Walvis Bay. 

Day Six

After a hearty breakfast, passengers will depart from the train at 8 am to visit Garas Park and the Quiver Tree Forest.

At 3 pm, passengers will take a one-hour transfer to visit the incredible sight of the Fish River Canyon.

Dinner will be served at the usual time aboard the train as the train heads to the Kalahari border.

Day Seven

Breakfast will be served at 7 am in the dining car as passengers prepare to go on their next big excursion off the train.

At 8 am, the train will make a stop in Upington. Once the train stops, passengers will be escorted on a two-hour walking tour of Upington. This tour is unique as it allows passengers to learn more about Upington while encouraging them to take in their surroundings actively.

Once the passengers have returned to the train, they can enjoy a leisurely day of relaxation as the train travels across the Karoo. Meal times will be kept standard, with lunch at 1 pm and dinner at 7:30 pm. Tea is optional and available for those who want it at 4:30 pm in the dining cars.

Day Eight

Breakfast and lunch will be served at their standard times in the dining cars, allowing passengers to engage and mingle with one another as they prepare to begin their day. 

At 2:30 pm, passengers will take an excursion off the train to take a private tour of the ‘Big Hole’ and Diamond mining museum in Kimberly.

By 4 pm, the train will leave Kimberly once all passengers have been collected and headed toward the Highveld.

Day Nine

Breakfast will be served from 7 am, and passengers can enjoy a hearty meal as the train travels along the goldfields.

 

Luggage and passport collection will occur once all passengers have had breakfast to ensure that everyone has ample time to collect their bearings and get ready to go home.

The train will dock at the Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria at noon when passengers leave the train and end their fantastic journey.
