The Rovos Rail African Collage is a ten-day trip that takes you on an epic safari of all the best-golfing locations South Africa offers. From sightseeing to tours of different game parks, non-golfers can spend quality time with their loved ones without participating in a sport they don’t play. At the same time, golfers will get the thrill of playing new holes in entirely different locations, with the bonus of spending time with those around them.

Non-golfers will have the opportunity to not only go sightseeing in private game drives, historical battlefields, shopping and getaway excursions, and extra activities catered to what you need on your African Safari. Travel from the Kalahari and the Karoo to the Botanical Gardens and even on a Lagoon Tour.

In truth, you will engage in a ten-day scenic journey in every sense of the word. You will be going from Pretoria to Cape Town, including stops at famous viewing points in Swaziland, fantastic tourist attractions in Durban, and more! In addition, both golfers and non-golfers can look forward to visiting the following spots on their adventure to hit all the best-golfing spots under the African sun:

  • The game drive in Leopard Creek/White River/Nelspruit in the Kruger National Park
  • Game viewing in Swaziland
  • A city tour of Durban (shopping excursions included)
  • A visit to the Valley of a Thousand Hills
  • The Fish River Valley game drive
  • An excursion to the Winelands on Garden Route
  • A visit to the Elephant Park

All packages are inclusive of all meals, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, limited laundry service is available, with room service available any day or night 24/7 and guided tours provided to guests on specific excursions. For those joining the golfers, we will include green activities such as green fees, beverages, halfway houses, and carts in the package.

Departure From Pretoria to Cape Town

Those starting their journey from Pretoria to Cape Town will enjoy a fabulous 9 Nights with us as you embark on the vacation of your dreams. Departure dates are:

Your itinerary will be as follows:

Day One

Day one will start with a departure time of 10 am at the Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria. Once all passengers have been checked in, passengers can take the time to explore the dining, lounge, and observatory cars as they get used to traveling by train.

Day Two

After a quick breakfast, the golfers and non-golfers will break into separate groups and begin their day-long journey.

Golfers: Depending on the availability, golfers will enjoy working on their aim at either 1) Leopard Creek, 2) White River or 3) Nelspruit. Lunch will be included as golfers continue their activities.

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will have the opportunity to enjoy a private and relaxing game drive through Kruger Park, accompanied by a relaxing lunch, before returning to the train and continuing the journey.

Day Three

Day three will see the golfers and non-golfers unite for more than just morning and evening meals. All passengers will depart on this day to enjoy a game drive through Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park.

Day Four

Day four will begin with breakfast, as usual, before passengers embark on their next big adventure with us. Durban is a fantastic site for golfers and non-golfers to explore and play, as it is known for its lush green beautiful sights, and extensive port.

Golfers: Golfers will enjoy the greens at either 1) Durban Country Club, 2) Beachwood, or 3) Zimbali, depending on availability. Lunch will also be provided so golfers can enjoy their day’s tee-off. 

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will get the opportunity to truly see all that Durban has to offer by going on a Durban City Tour, as well as a visit to the gorgeous Botanical Gardens, followed by lunch on the beachfront in Umhlanga.

Day Five

Golfers: Golfers will start the day by working the greens at the Champagne Sports Resort.

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will head to the Spionkop Lodge to listen to the history behind the legendary ‘Battle of Spionkop’ and walk in the same footsteps as Churchill and Gandhi. You will then get the option of either heading back to the lodge early or enjoying a private game drive.

Day Six

Day six is a day of leisure in which passengers can choose to mingle in the lounge or dining areas. Or passengers can relax and enjoy some personal time in the privacy and comforts of their car.

Day Seven

The day will begin as usual, with breakfast being served in the dining cars for those wishing to partake.

Golfers: Golfers will start the morning with a tee-off on the Humewood Course, followed by a return to the train in Port Elizabeth as the train heads to Oudtshoorn. 

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will get the rare opportunity to enjoy a game drive through Addo Elephant Park. Passengers will see a park home to one of the most significant Elephant populations in Africa!

Day Eight

On this day, the morning will start bright and early to give all passengers a head start in the right way.

Golfers: Golfers will enjoy a tee-off and a delicious lunch on the greens of either 1) the Fancourt Golf Estate or 2) Ernie Els Oubaai.

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will spend the day doing exciting activities. First on the roster is a visit to an Ostrich farm to see the flightless birds up close and personal. This is followed by a trip to George, where they can visit the train museum or splurge on a shopping spree.

Day Nine

Day Nine will begin with a breakfast served in the dining cars, where all passengers can engage and mingle with one another before splitting up into their activities.

Golfers: Golfers will enjoy the tee-off at one of two locations, depending on the availability of the course. You will enjoy the day teeing off at either Ernie Els Oubaai or Fancourt.

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will enjoy their day with a scenic drive through George as they head to Knysna to explore the lagoon!

Day Ten

The day begins with breakfast in the dining cars as passengers prepare for the tour’s final excursion.

Golfers and non-golfers will enjoy a day of leisure together as everyone can view and explore the Cape Fold Mountains. Return time to the train will depend on the arrival time once passengers have reached the Cape Fold Mountains.

At 16h45, passengers should check their luggage and ensure that they have their passports returned to them. Passenger departure time will happen by 17h00 at Platform 23 Cape Town Station.

Departure From Cape Town to Pretoria

Your itinerary will be as follows: 

Day One

The train will bring its departure from Platform 23 at the Cape Town Station at 9 am. The train will travel through the Matroosberg Mountains on the first day as passengers get used to traveling by train.

Day Two

Day two will start with breakfast in the relevant car before the passengers separate into different groups.

Golfers: Golfers will tee off at one of the following locations, depending on availability, 1) Fancourt Golf Estate or Ernie Els Oubaai, before enjoying a delicious lunch.

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will enjoy their morning in Knysna and go on a ferry ride to Featherbed before returning to the train.

All passengers will depart from the train at 18h30 to head over to the Fancourt Estate for a fantastic dinner.

Day Three

Day three will begin with breakfast available for all passengers who want it.

Golfers: Golfers will the morning running with a tee off at the Fancourt Golf Estate.

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will begin the day with an outing to Oudtshoorn for a visit to an Ostrich farm.

All passengers must be back on board by 1:30 pm to enjoy a delicious lunch as the train heads to Port Elizabeth.

Day Four

Golfers: Golfers will head to the Humewood Golf Course by 7 am, followed by a hearty lunch before traveling to Coerney as they rejoin the train.

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will spend the day exploring Port Elizabeth, starting with a city tour at 10:15 am. Followed by a game drive through the Addo Elephant Park at 2:30 pm and returning to the train.

By 5:30 pm, all passengers can enjoy the panoramic view provided by the train as the train is en route to Nouport through Fish River Valley.

Day Five

On day five, all passengers will enjoy a leisurely day. Passengers can choose to mingle and entertain one another, or they can enjoy quiet time on their own in the privacy of their cars as the train travels through the border of Lesotho and heads to Ladysmith.

Day Six

On day six, once everyone has had breakfast, the groups will separate to engage in their activities as follows:

Golfers: Golfers will enjoy a morning tee-off at the Champagne Golf Resort at 7 am, followed by a transfer to Escourt Golf Course at 3 pm and a return time of 5 pm.

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will head to the Spionkop lodge at 09h00 and hear the history behind the famous Spiokop Battlefield Tour, then enjoy a delightful game drive and lunch before heading back to the train by 5 pm as the train head to Durban.

Day Seven

Day seven will begin with the two groups heading off on their next adventure after enjoying breakfast together.

Golfers: Golfers will experience their morning tee-off at the Durban Country Club or Zimbali before enjoying a wonderful lunch.

Non-Golfers: Non-Golfers will start on a Durban City Tour at 9 am, complete with lunch. 

Passengers must return to the train so the train can depart for Hluhluwe via the Coast and St Lucia Wetland Park.

Day Eight

Day eight is when all passengers will come and enjoy the day together. Everyone will enjoy a game drive through Hluhluwe Reserve before heading to the train to resume the journey.

At 11 am, the train will travel through Swaziland to enter Melalane in the Kruger.

Day Nine

Passengers will start their day bright and early after enjoying breakfast together. 

Golfers: Golfers will start by teeing off at Leopard Creek and enjoying lunch after golfing or heading back to the train to enjoy lunch.

Non-Golfers: Non-golfers will go on a game drive through Kruger Park at 7 am, with lunch included, before returning to the train.

By 4:30 pm, all passengers can take in the view as the train travels across the Drakensberg to enter Waterval Onder.

Day Ten

After a hearty breakfast, passengers can unwind and get ready to head home as the train begins its descent through the escarpment.

After all, the luggage has been checked, the train will dock at the Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria, and your journey with us will end.
